Getting a Second Opinion

  

Patients are entitled to seek a second opinion from another psychiatrist, however there needs to be a clear rationale for seeking the second opinion.

 

The Mental Health Service asks that any request be in writing and contain specific details of your reasons and be sent to:

The rationale for seeking the second opinion must be clearly stated within the letter requesting a second opinion.

The decision as to whether to agree to a request for a second opinion is made by the psychiatrist and treating team.

Not all requests for a second opinion are able to be actioned.
