Consumer Advisors, Peer Support, Advocacy & Support Groups

In Taranaki there are a range of services available to consumers in the way of consumer advisory service and peer support and advocacy.

Taranaki District Health Board - Mental Health and Addictions Services has had a Consumer Advisor for a number of years.
The Consumer Advisor plays an integral role in providing advice on service development, provision and in monitoring services.

Nga Hau E Wha (The Four Winds) was established in December of 2008 with a group of two representatives from each of the four regions that meet quarterly to learn about each other's activities and collaborate for people who experience mental illness and/or addiction, to have a voice that is heard on a local, regional and national level.

Strong Consumer/Tangata Whaiora participation at all levels within the sector can lead to greater consumer satisfaction with services, better recovery and improved quality of services.  Consumers/Tangata Whaiora have been involved in policy and planning in Taranaki.
